The 50th Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) lineup for the year has finally been revealed by the Metro Manila Development Authority. Cornerstone artists Piolo Pascual, Elijah Canlas, Dan Villegas, Antoinette Jadaone, Justin Besana, Via Antonio, JM Salvado, and Julia Montes will be taking part in this year’s festival.
One of this year’s crowd-drawers is Piolo Pascual who was the face of last year’s MMFF blockbuster “Mallari.” The A-lister stars opposite Vic Sotto in action-drama flick “The Kingdom.”
Cornerstone creatives, Dan Villegas and Antoinette Jadaone, teamed up to deliver the thriller “Uninvited,” the former being the director whereas the latter is the film’s producer. Among its powerhouse cast are the 68th FAMAS Best Actor winner Elijah Canlas and promising actor JM Salvado.
Award-winning actress, Julia Montes, is all geared up as she co-headlines the action-thriller movie “Topakk” with Arjo Atayde and Sid Lucero. Julia started her immersion training in preparation for the film as early as September 2022. The film was first screened at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May 2023 and premiered at the 76th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland in August of the same year.
Acclaimed multimedia artist Justin Besana is in high demand as he has been commissioned to design five movie posters for this year’s festival. The posters he created include “The Kingdom,” “Green Bones,” “Espantaho,” “Himala: Isang Musikal,” and “Uninvited.”
TV, film, and stage actress Via Antonio plays a supporting role in the Vice Ganda-led movie “And the Breadwinner Is…”
The Metro Manila Film Festival is celebrating its golden jubilee this year—premiering on Christmas Day through New Year’s Day and into the first weekend of January 2025.
