From the internationally acclaimed film of Antoinette Jadaone, “Sunshine,” award-winning actor Elijah Canlas is set to get back to his theater roots, as he stars on the stage play adaptation of Giancarlo Abrahan’s 2014 Cinemalaya film “Dagitab.”
Elijah revealed that he has been preparing for this role in his theater comeback a year after “Emulsyon.” “I play the role of Gab Atienza. I got to use the preparation I learned from my theater training—heavy script analysis and character work. Multiple rehearsals to try out different choices,” the award-winning actor shared.
He will be joining the star-studded cast, along with Agot Isidro, Jojit Lorenzo, Benedix Ramos, and fellow Cornerstone artist Samantha Samarita, under the direction of Palanca Hall of Famer Guelan Varela-Luarca—an opportunity that Elijah sees to discover new ways of navigating himself and his character on stage. “Being directed by Guelan Luarca is an experience that made me explore more than I even prepared for,” Elijah said.
“Dagitab” will have a two-weekend run, with show dates July 5-6 and July 12-13, 2025 (2 PM and 7:30 PM) at the Old Comm Black Box, Ateneo de Manila.
Meanwhile, “Sunshine,” where Elijah portrayed “a problematic character that mirrors the struggle of a young boy faced with a life-altering conflict,” has been announced to have its local screening starting July 23.
