“Gaya sa Pelikula” star Ian Pangilinan is more than ready to take on the world of film as he debuts as “Francis” in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry titled “Family Matters” this December 25, 2022.
Starting out as a theater actor during his Ateneo days, Ian has gotten to act in various shows such as TV5’s “Niña Niño”, ABS-CBN’s “Love in 40 Days”, Viu Original’s “K-Love”, and Juan Miguel Severo’s “Gaya sa Pelikula” – the last being his most notable acting gig so far.
Coming from the same team who stirred up viewers’ emotions with the Filipino adaptation of the 2013 Korean hit movie “Miracle in Cell No.7”, “Family Matters” is directed by Nuel Naval and written by Mel Mendoza-del Rosario. The film is a dramedy revolving around the lives and struggles of an elderly married couple and their four children.
Ian will be portraying “Francis”, a character who is opinionated about the conflicts and drama surrounding his family. “I play the role of Francis, ang panganay sa mga apo. Had a fun time forming his character kase makikita mo yung mga pagbabagong pagdadaanan niya as he sees the different sides of the family na ‘di usually nakikita ng mga mas batang apo,” he shared.
Ian also described working with veteran cast members such as Nonie Buencamino, Liza Lorena, and Noel Trinidad as something really wonderful. According to him, he was expecting to be intimidated because they are all well-seasoned actors, but they’ve been nothing but supportive since day 1.
“They’d tell me ‘good job’ when the scene goes well, offer advice, tell me ‘kaya ko yan’ when I’m preparing for a scene (especially the heavy ones). It was such a great energy because you could tell everyone was uplifting each other because they really wanted the project to succeed.”
“Family Matters” is among the official entries of MMFF 2022, and opens in theaters this Christmas, December 25. For updates about “Family Matters”, follow @familymattersmovie on Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, @FamilyMattersPH on Twitter, and “Family Matters Movie” on Facebook.
