John Prats and Heart Evanglista reunite for first solo movie together after more than 20 years

The love team that a generation grew up watching is officially back.

More than two decades after becoming one of the young love teams of the late ’90s and early 2000s, John Prats and Heart Evangelista are reuniting for a brand-new film.

The two first became known as a popular onscreen pair through projects such as G-Mik! (1999–2002), Trip (2001), Berks (2002–2004), My First Romance (2003), and Ang Tanging Ina (2003), among others.

For a generation of Filipino viewers, their pairing became part of the pop culture landscape of the era. 

Now, more than 20 years later, John and Heart are back, not for a reunion cameo, not for a throwback appearance, but to headline a movie of their own.

And this time, their reunion comes with a major twist: John Prats is not only returning in front of the camera, but is also stepping behind it as the film’s director.

FROM SOCIAL MEDIA THROWBACKS TO THE BIG SCREEN

The reunion comes after the two began appearing together again in social media content, collaborations, and reels, giving longtime fans a glimpse of their chemistry after years apart.

What started with simple social media posts, collaborations, and reels featuring the two together has now grown into something much bigger. After years of seeing Prats and Evangelista reconnect online, fans are finally getting what many never expected to see again: John and Heart in a movie together.

Their return also comes at a very different point in both of their careers.

The young stars audiences knew in the 2000s have since taken on different projects and pursued their own paths in the entertainment industry, John Prats is now focusing on his directing career, while Heart is an actress, host, and focusing on fashion. Their upcoming film, therefore, brings together two familiar faces while introducing a story audiences have never seen from them before.

Yet after all these years, one thing remains familiar — their heart and natural chemistry.

“I JUST NEED A PERFECT MOVIE TO COME BACK”

For Heart Evangelista, returning to film after a long time was never simply about making another movie. It had to be the right one.

“I just need a perfect movie to come back,” Evangelista shares, explaining that after being away from film for some time, she was waiting for the right project to bring her back to the big screen.

And for her, this was that movie — especially with her first love, John Prats.

For Prats, the feeling was much the same.

Prats now more focused on directing and working behind the scenes, he also felt that returning in front of the camera required the right story and the right project.

This film gives him both sides of that return — actor and director.

MORE THAN JUST A REUNION

After more than 20 years, Prats and Evangelista finally get the opportunity to headline a film as a pair and tell a completely new story. One that isn't simply a recreation of what they had before.

The reunion also comes at a meaningful point in their lives.

“Siguro hindi talaga tinadhana na magkita kami sa loob ng 20 years. Nakikita ko lang siya from afar,” Prats shares, reflecting on the years that passed before they found themselves working together again. Stating that this comeback is unexpected but the one they were hoping for. 

For Evangelista, the reunion carries an even more personal meaning.

“When we were connected, I really needed a reminder from someone that knew me when I was a little girl,” she says.

The project, for her, becomes more than just a comeback. It is also a return to a version of herself that existed before the fame, careers, and years in between — with someone who knew her when everything was still innocent.

JOHN AND HEART: THEN AND NOW

That is what makes this reunion different. The John Prats and Heart Evangelista audiences remember from the 2000s are no longer the same young stars they once were. 

John and Heart have grown, changed, and built careers of their own.

And now, they are meeting again on screen as the people they have become after more than 20 years. 

For the generation that grew up with G-Mik!, Berks, My First Romance, and their other projects, the film is a long-awaited return!

For younger audiences, it is an introduction to the tandem that once had an entire generation asking, “What if?”
