Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan and her band made Filipino music history on the night of February 19, 2022 as she became the first ever Filipino act to perform at the Expo 2020 Dubai’s DEC ARENA (Dubai Exhibition Centre) in the United Arab Emirates. Comedians MC Muah and Lassy were also part of the event as it was tagged as “an exceptional night of music and comedy” by the organizers.
The Expo 2020 Dubai is a 182-day global showcase being held from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The Philippine Pavilion built for this edition of the Expo is the largest that the country has ever presented in the event’s history. This impressive fact shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who is familiar with the significant Overseas Filipino Worker community in the United Arab Emirates, totaling around 700,000 Filipinos as of recent.
It is also worth noting that KZ’s concert was completely sold out in less than 24 hours since the event was announced to the general public. Even if tickets were already technically sold out, so many fans still wanted to get a chance and see KZ perform live at the arena, a clear indicator of KZ’s true star power.
The huge success of KZ’s performance also undoubtedly fulfills the Philippine pavilion’s goal to give world-class Filipino talent a platform to impress and catch the attention of the global audience.
