Markki Leads The Way In Triple Threat Concert Series

Author: Mikoy Fernandez

The multi-talented Filipino-Norwegian artist Markki Stroem has successfully put on a fabulous solo concert entitled “Leading” on the evening of October 14, 2022 at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez (CCP Black Box Theater). The concert is the first of the three-part concert series by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) titled as “Triple Threats”. The solo concert was directed by esteemed filmmaker and director James Mayo and produced by CS Concerts (Cornerstone Entertainment’s concert division). His fellow artists Alysandra Serdenia, Cara Barredo, Kayla Rivera, and Brian Black (a.k.a. Naia) were also part of the concert as special guest artists, playing crucial roles in the life of Markki as a professional artist and in the concert that encapsulates his life in the entertainment industry so far.

Given how the concert centers around his colorful life in show business, it comes as no surprise that the program is a combination of his favorite songs from the musicals he has starred in and songs that perfectly encapsulate who he is as an artist in general. Songs ranged from pop songs such as Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and John Legend’s “Ordinary People”, originals such as “Sanity” and “Illicit Activities”, standards such as Henry Mancini’s “Moon River”, and Disney classics such as Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” and Pocahontas’ “Colors of the Wind”. Selected songs of prolific composer Vince De Jesus were also featured such as “You Know Nothing” and “Napapanatag”.

In a Manila Times feature on Markki prior to the show, he mentioned that the concert basically combines all of the artistic disciplines that he has tackled and learned in the past 12 years he has been in showbiz. While Markki is best known for his theater work with the most recent being Barefoot Theater Collaborative’s “Mula sa Buwan”, Markki is also well-versed in other fields of entertainment such as radio, television, film, and modelling. Anyone who is familiar with his artistic resume can attest that Markki is indeed a true triple threat and a jack of all trades.

To follow Markki in the CCP’s Triple Threats concert series will be Arman Ferrer and Poppert Bernadas this coming November and December 2022 respectively, also at the CCP Black Box Theater.
