Yeng Constantino’s ‘Biyaheng Bente’: A monumental concert and love letter 20 years in the making

Last August 28 and 29, the Smart Araneta Coliseum was packed for two sold-out nights of Biyaheng Bente, Yeng Constantino’s 20th anniversary concert. Produced by Cornerstone Concerts and Forerunner Media, the milestone celebration brought together thousands of fans, proving that the rain was no match for the crowd’s excitement and anticipation.

The concert was a culmination of two decades of music in one expansive production, moving through the songs that introduced Yeng to the public and the hits that have since become part of different generations' stories. The setlist brought back different memories for the audience, with some reminded of their teenage years, while others reminisced about their first loves, heartbreaks, friendships, and different chapters of their lives.

At the center of that journey was Yeng herself, but Biyaheng Bente also highlighted the people who became part of her story along the way.

Premier concerts and events director John Prats led the creative direction and execution of the show, masterfully translating Yeng’s musical journey into a show that felt like one continuous ride rather than a series of separate performances.

The Biyaheng Bente concept was reflected throughout the stage design by Enzo Pizzaro Designs, most notably through a massive LED backdrop inspired by the front of a jeepney. The visual immediately established the concert’s central theme while allowing the stage to transform as Yeng moved through different eras of her career.

The production further brought the world of Biyaheng Bente to life through a series of set pieces that appeared throughout the show, turning the stage into familiar scenes from everyday Filipino life. Different segments featured a sari-sari store, a sorbetes cart, a waiting shed, a pedicab, and a bench, while the satellite stage was transformed with a swing. A gasoline station and a cherry blossom-inspired setup also became part of the changing stage environments, adding distinct visual identities to different portions of the concert. The concept even extended beyond the stage during “B.A.B.A.Y.” and “T.A.N.G.A." when a mini jeepney, also referred to as jeepito, roamed around different seat sections of Araneta labeled with street names inspired by Yeng’s songs.

Another major visual element was seen during “Hawak Kamay,” when a footbridge descended from the stage as a choir performed below, creating a striking image that elevated one of Yeng’s most beloved songs.

Musical director Ria Osorio also gave Yeng’s well-loved songs fresh arrangements while keeping the music familiar while giving longtime favorites a new concert experience.

The two nights became even bigger with a star-studded lineup of surprise guests on both days.

Day 1 brought together Angeline Quinto, Erik Santos, and KZ Tandingan, all longtime friends and fellow artists who have remained close to Yeng through the years. Chito Miranda, meanwhile, represented one of the OPM icons Yeng has long admired and looked up to.

Yeng also personally chose Jae of Nobita, Argee of I Belong to the Zoo, and El Manu and Jessy Kang, artists she considers among the newer faces of OPM. Their inclusion served as Yeng’s way of giving back to artists who, in her own journey, also showed her kindness and support within the industry.

Enchong Dee also joined the first night, bringing another layer of nostalgia as the original “Chinito” from the “Chinito” music video.

Day 2 featured RJ Jimenez, Yeng’s fellow “Pinoy Dream Academy” scholar, alongside longtime industry friends Kyla and Sam Milby. OPM icon Ogie Alcasid also joined Yeng, representing another artist she has admired throughout her career.

The night also brought another crowd-favorite moment when Empoy Marquez took on the much-loved “Chinito” role, following Enchong Dee’s memorable turn from the previous night. His playful take had the audience laughing and cheering, adding another lighthearted moment to the celebration.

For the younger generation, Yeng once again made room on her anniversary stage for MRLD, Angela Ken, and Janine Berdin on the second day, whom she personally chose as part of her celebration of the new voices shaping OPM.

The varied guest lineup ultimately reflected Yeng’s stature in the industry today: an artist who can look back at the people who inspired her and an artist who can use her platform to support the next generation of OPM stars.

Among the biggest moments of the two-night celebration were reunions that brought unresolved chapters of Yeng’s past back into the spotlight.

Day 2 saw Yeng and RJ Jimenez reunite onstage after 18 years without communication. Having shared their beginnings through Pinoy Dream Academy, the two were able to finally revisit what happened between them and clear the air about the circumstances that led to their falling out of touch.

Another unexpected throwback happened during “Sabihin Mo Na” when Yeng approached Ryan Bang after sharing a memory of their past. What began as Yeng recounting an old story suddenly became a live moment between the two, highlighting the friendship they have kept through the years. Vice Ganda, who was seated beside Ryan, was visibly moved by Yeng’s gesture.

While the concert featured Yeng’s biggest collaborations and most elaborate production numbers, one of its most intimate moments was shared with her husband, Yan Asuncion. Yeng shared a heartfelt message for Yan before performing “Ikaw” - her most popular hit to date and a love song that has become an anthem. She performed "Ikaw" both days, but on the second night of the concert, she went down from the stage and sang the song to her husband in front of the packed Big Dome. The gesture shifted the atmosphere of the coliseum. Everyone was moved. And the concert became something more personal, allowing thousands of people to witness one of the greatest Filipino love songs come to life right before their very eyes.

Along with Vice Ganda and Ryan Bang, celebrities also came out to support Yeng across the two nights, including Heart Evangelista, TJ Monterde, Jason Dy, Kyle Echarri, Isabel Oli, Christian Bautista, Darren Espanto, Klarisse De Guzman, Alexa Ilacad, Julie Anne San Jose, Rayver Cruz, Kris Bernal, Mika Salamanca, Macoy Dubs, Jonathan Manalo, Moi Bien, Gian Bernardino of Cup of Joe, Direk Irene Villamor, Gary Valenciano, and other friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry.

The Biyaheng Bente experience did not end when the concert lights went down.

Photos and videos from the two-night celebration quickly made their way online, with fans sharing their favorite performances, guest appearances, emotional moments, and nostalgic highlights.

The concert sparked a nationwide buzz, with Yengsters and OPM fans from different parts of the country joining the conversation and reliving the moments from the Big Dome. Videos from the concert racked up millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes, further showing the overwhelming excitement and love surrounding Yeng’s 20th anniversary.

The response also reflected something bigger than the scale of the production itself. As Manila Trend Tracker put it, “A sold-out stadium doesn't just happen because you have hits; it happens because you gave a generation the soundtrack to their lives.”

From the packed venue despite the storm to the star-studded guests, emotional performances, nostalgic setlist, and massive audience sing-alongs, Biyaheng Bente proved that Yeng's music continues to connect with Filipinos across generations.

Opening the celebration were Cornerstone artists IÚNO and Sassa on Day 1, and IÚNO, france adrian, and Gabby Sampedro on Day 2. france adrian also shares a songwriting connection with Yeng, having co-written “Kalimutan Mo Na Lang,” which Yeng performed with I Belong to the Zoo.

After 20 years, the connection between Yeng and her fans, built through the songs that have become part of their lives, remains just as strong.

And the journey does not end at the Big Dome.

Following the sold-out Manila shows, Yeng and director John Prats will bring the celebration to more fans around the world through the Biyaheng Bente World Tour.
